EPFO News Updates - Members can change their personal details independently
According to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), a new feature has been launched on January 18, allowing EPFO members to change their personal details without any intervention from the employer.
EPFO profile update clarified:
Over 7.6 crore members of the Provident Fund Organization EPFO can now avail themselves of this facility, enabling them to change personal details such as name, address, date of birth, and other important information directly on the EPFO portal without requiring approval from the EPFO office. Additionally, EPF members who have e-KYC-enabled EPF accounts can file their EPF transfer claims online using Aadhaar OTP, bypassing the need for employer approval. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced these updates regarding EPFO services on January 18. According to the ministry, nearly 27% of complaints have been filed by EPFO members regarding KYC issues. This new update is set to resolve these concerns.

NEW rule for EPFO profile update:
Members who have a UAN (Universal Account Number) issued after October 1, 2017, can now change their personal details such as name, date of birth, address, father/spouse name, marital status, and other critical information on the EPFO portal with Aadhaar OTP, without any intervention from the employer. If the UAN registration is not linked with the Aadhaar number, members will need to submit a correction request physically with all the required documents to their employer, who will approve it before the EPFO processes the request.
Advantages:
In the financial year 2024-25, around 8 lakh applications were forwarded to EPFO by employers. According to EPFO, only 40% of these were sent within 5 days, and 47% took more than 10 days. Employers took an average of 28 days to complete tasks. With this new facility, members of the provident fund can now resolve 45% of these cases immediately through Aadhaar OTP verification.
The minister also highlighted that various initiatives will be taken to further enhance EPFO services, aiming to bring them on par with the banking system.
